The Austrian army have won a limited victory at Reishach, but have failed to take that town. 11 Bavarian corps has arrived at Mattsee making it impossible for them to maintain their position at Branau. Charles orders an immediate retreat to Linz.

Outinot has been forced to withdraw to Reishach to regroup his three battered corps. 11 corps has been ordered to move to Reishach and attack any enemy troops in that area. His remaining three corps will join 11 corps if the enemy have not retreated. If they have they will remain in and around Reishach and regroup.

Conclusion of Campaign

The Austrian invasion of Bavaria has ended in failure. Both armies are battered and unable to continue offensive operations without reinforcements and resupply.

Marshal Oudinot has concentrated his army in front of Munich and forced the enemy to retreat. However he has suffered heavy casualties, and is in no condition to go onto the offensive. He will now await further orders from Napoleon.

Both armies will require a few weeks to rest and regroup.

Following the rout of 2 corps at Salzburg, Charles must decide whether to admit defeat and retire eastwards towards Linz, or to risk all on an immediate attack to destroy the three corps opposite him before 11 corps can move north against his flank. He decides to take the risk and orders 4 corps to force march through the night to join 1 and 3 corps at Branau by daybreak. The three corps will then move to destroy the enemy at Reishach.

Oudinot is delighted with 11 corps victory at Salzburg. He now expects the Austrian army to withdraw to the east and try to regroup in the Linz area. He is determined to strike at them before they can do so. 11 corps is ordered to abandon the Tyrol and move north to join the main army. 12 corps is ordered to march during the night and join 9 and 10 corps at Reishach. The three corps will then attack the enemy before they can retreat.

Charles is delighted with his victories at Mattsee and Altheim. Ever cautious he decides to spend the day consolidating and reorganizing his army before ordering an advance towards Munich.

He orders 3 corps forward and 1 corps into reserve to regroup and resupply.
