Archduke Charles

Charles is now aware of the Bavarian advance towards Branau and Mattsee.

He orders his HQ to Franken to find out what is happening at Mattsee, where has received reports of a Bavarian attack.

He orders 2 corps to retreat to Franken to be closer to 1 corps. By nightfall 3 and 4 corps will be within supporting distance.

HQ – move to Franken
1 corps - hold Altheim
2 corps – move to Franken
3 corps – move to Raab
4 corps – move to Hausruck


Marshal Oudinot
Oudinot has received news of the failure of 11 corps to take Mattsee. He orders them to return to Salzburg to regroup.

10 corps will attack Altheim and 12 corps move south of the river Danube to support them.

9 corps will continue to hold Passau

General Klenau changes his corps orders to Engage so that his garrison can advance from Mattsee and engage the enemy infantry.

Artillery fire canister on same infantry, 11 with 2D6, a third hit

Bavarian infantry test morale, roll 6, fail but Shaken not Rout

Move garrison to edge of town

Change orders to “Engage”


11 Bavarian Corps

General Wrede orders his infantry to skirmish with the enemy prior to an all out attack.

Move two brigades forward and skirmish, one hit

General Wrede moves to take command of the main infantry attack. He has left his weakest brigade in square to cover the gunners in case the enemy cavalry should overpower his cavalry brigade.

Artillery fire on infantry, roll 8 with 2D6 , and miss (note require 9 because of casualty)

Manhandle guns forward

Infantry form square to protect gunners

Remaining infantry form column of attack


2 Austrian Corps

General Klenau is fully deployed and in position to receive the enemy attack.

The gunners have received casualties and will have to move much closer to the town if they are to inflict any casualties before the infantry attack.

General Klenau moves to the left flank to command the two infantry brigades and artillery covering this flank. This will take him out of command range of his cavalry.
